His parents are missionaries. As a child the Bakers traveled extensively together. James Colson Baker suffered from depression and was unemployed, and Sonia Alane abandoned them at the age of nine. After that, Baker and his dad moved to Denver which was where they resided together with his father's aunt. Baker experienced bullying from youngsters in his community because of the poverty he had. When he was in sixth grade, he began listening to rap. Colson Kelly (also known as Machine Gun Kelly) was born April 22, 1990, in Texas. His songs are known for their ability to blend contemporary hip-hop and rock music and alternative music. Baker has released four mixtapes over between 2007-2010, prior to joining Bad Boy Records. Delivering lyrics with the speed of a bullet train this Cleveland rapper experienced a meteoric rise in late 2011 when Baker made the switch from releasing self-released mixtapes and then signing with reputed labels. His career took off immediately, and all of his records making the top ten charts.
